NATIONAL EISTEDDFOD, EBBW VALE
In the run up to the 2010 National Eisteddfod to be held at the former steel works site in Ebbw Vale, we were approached by Blaenau Gwent CBC and asked to produce a design and specification for a high quality grass pitch that could be ready for the Eisteddfod and would then become part of the future Leisure Centre to be built as part of the overall development of the steel works.
We proposed to construct a sand based pitch, similar to other pitches we have constructed for the Council during the last ten years. We started onsite at the beginning of June and installed over 2000m of drainage, 1500 tonnes of sand, 2000 tonnes of topsoil sourced and imported to site. Following this over 7,000m2 of turf was laid and following 2 weeks of continued irrigation was handed over to the Eisteddfod. From shale to grassed pitch in 6 weeks.
