We constructed the original artificial pitch at Risca back in 1995, surfaced at the time with a NottsSward Needlepunched Surface laid onto a sand envelope shockpad. After 16 years of use the surface needed to be replaced. The works were carried out as part of our framework agreement with Caerphilly CBC which has seen us replace one redgra surface and three needlepunch surfaces this year. Three of the new surfaces are Short Pile 3G, however it was decided that Risca would remain as a sand filled surface to accommodate the Hockey requirements of the Borough. In order to maintain the integrity of the sand envelope shockpad the surface was cut into 1.0m wide strips and rolled up and removed by hand. The new surface was laid using our own Hot Melt Glue System, we are able to offer a 5 year guarantee on all of our joints using this system. The pitch was resurfaced in 4 weeks during the school holidays.
