South Wales Sports Grounds Contractors were chosen by Swansea City F.C to construct their new state of the art First team training Facility at Fairwood. Works included constructing 3 Fullsize Fibresand pitches, 2 Fullsize Artificial training pitches complete with drainage and fencing enclosure, 1No. natural turf goalkeeper training area and 4No. upgraded natural turf pitches.

The project was started in Winter 2012 and completed ready for the new 2013/14 season with a start to finish works period of only 10 Months. The works were extensive and the deadlines critical but with good planning and with the resources available to South Wales Sports Grounds Contractors works were completed on time and too a high standard. The works for each section included:

Construction of three Fibresand pitches which included reduced level excavation, new drainage system, importing clean stone raft, importing rootzone layers, importing and mixing fibresand, fertilizing and seeding assisted by a new irrigation system. One of the the three fibresand pitches is located on a different level to the others along with the goalkeeper training area and this required extensive cut and fill works all of which was carried out in house.

The upgrade of existing pitches which included koroing off an amount of the existing topsoil, inserting a new drainage system, sand slitting, importing and spreading sand, seed and fertilize again assisted by a new irrigation system. The goal keeper training area is situated on a different level to these pitches but consist of a similar construction.

The New Artificial Training pitches included excavating topsoil, insert new drainage system, import of stone raft, laying of tarmac surface, laying of shockpad layer, laying of systetic surface, import and spread sand and rubber infill material. Works also included ball stop perimeter fencing to enclose the pitches.

South Wales Sports Grounds were also employed to insert Floodlighting to 1No. Fibresand pitch and to the two artificial Pitches with all civils works. To complete the works the pitch surrounds were landscaped.
