Cwmbran High School, formerly Fairwater School, approached South Wales Sports Grounds (SWSG) in 2018 to design and build a new MUGA facility at the rear of the school to allow the children to utilise a surface for football, tennis, netball and basketball. With a D&B proposal, SWSG were able to design a surface that allowed all the sporting needs to be satisfied with minimum disruption the schools timetable for construction.
A new rebound fence was constructed to surround the court with the tarmac surface receiving a colour coated surface to provide a more aesthetic finish as well as superior grip and playability. The colour coating was matched to the school’s colours with line marking to suit. SWSG also supplied the sports equipment including basketball, tennis and netball nets.

In spring 2018, South Wales Sports Grounds constructed a new sand dressed synthetic surface specifically for the all-girls school’s hockey team at Howells School at Llandaff, Cardiff. The project involved the removal of the exiting grass surface, installation of a new stone raft, fencing, hydraulic “raise and lower” floodlights and ancillary footpath works. The works took place alongside the construction of a 2 bank MUGA and grass pitch.
The surface was handed over in July 2018 and enabled the school and community to utilise the hockey, small sided football and tennis markings.
The project worked in tandem with Notts Sports and was worked and managed throughout by SWSG’s in house teams.
